Abstract
An attempt of the precise removal of the laryngeal mass under suspension-micro laryngoscope had new prospect and development in laryngeal surgery.
The combined use of the operating microscope and suspension laryngoscope appears to be useful in the evaluation of lesions which may be precancerous, since minor degree of epithelial thickening and alternations in the pattern of fine vessels beneath the epithelium may be observed with greater clarity.
From July 1974 to December 1980, authors have experienced I51 cases, of various laryngeal lesions in our Dept., Korea University hospital and laryngomicrosurgery was performed. And the following results were obtained,
1) Distributions of disease in order of frequency were vocal nodule 44cases(29.1%), vocal polyp 43 cases (28.5%) , papilloma 21 cases (13.9%) cancer 17 cases Reinke¢¥s edema 5 cases (3.3%), and web formation 3 cases (2.0%).
2) Sex distributions were male 2.1: female 1. Age distributions of male showed a predilection of fourth decade (26 cases, 15.5%) and those of female third decade (l8cases, 36.7%).
3) Chief complaints were hoarseness 133 cases (88.1%), sore throat 29 cases (19.2%), and dyspnea 24 cases (15.9%) in order.
4) Duration of symptoms were as follows; one to six months 49 cases (32.5%), six months to one year 39 cases (25.8%) and below one month 19 cases (12.6%) in order.
5) Sites of lesion were as follows; both cord 52 cases (34.4%) , Lt. cord 52 cases (34.4%), Rt. cord 40cases(26.5%), supraglottic involvement 1 case and whole laryngeal involvement 2 cases.
